Classroom Capture: Lecture Recording System Draws Devotees at Temple

That's still a big question in higher education, as it becomes more and more common to augment in class courses with an online component. How to Podcast Campus Lectures (Chronicler of Higher Education, January 2007) -
George Washington University uses Anystream, a program designed by a company called Apreso, to manage the path of podcasts from the lecture hall to the Web. Anystream includes software that, once installed on classroom computers, can schedule recording sessions, capture lectures, turn them into MP3 files, and tag the files with titles and other information. Podcast Craze Hits Classrooms (Boston Globe, 11 July 2006) -
Hoping to appeal to tech-savvy students with a shrinking attention span, more Boston-area colleges are pushing professors to go digital and record their lectures as downloadable files that student can listen to wherever, whenever.

Supporters of the idea say that podcasts help students study better, allowing baffled freshmen to fast-forward to the part of an introductory lecture they didn't understand and hit repeat. The University of Massachusetts at Lowell, for example, will try with 10 high-tech classrooms this fall. [more...]
