2009 Neuroendocrine Tumor Symposium
Diagnosis & Management Strategies:
A Multidisciplinary Approach

Overview of the Event

On October 2 & 3, 2009, NANETS second annual continuing medical education program "Diagnosis & Management Strategies: A Multidisciplinary Approach" was jointly sponsored with The University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center. This symposium was held in Charlotte, North Carolina and received an enthusiastic response by both attendees and faculty.

The conference began with a two and a half hour overview of the proposed NANETS consensus guidelines. These presentations sparked some lively discussion and input from participants. The remainder of the symposium was packed with the most current treatment information and cutting-edge scientific and educational developments in neuroendocrine tumor diseases. The quality of data presented by outstanding faculty highlighted the impact that our recently formed society is having on neuroendocrine tumor (NET) research, education and patient care.

Richard Warner receiving an award from host Larry Kvols With over 175 specialists from around the world participating in the symposium, the message was clear how vital it is to use a multidisciplinary team approach to understand, diagnose and treat NETs.

Attendees from multiple specialties including medical and surgical oncologists, endocrinologists, interventional radiologists, nurse practitioners and gastroenterologists, shared information and dialogue to advance the care of NET patients.

Irvin Modlin at the podium delivering his keynote talk Comprehensive efforts are underway to maximize collaborative opportunities and to train the "NET" generation of health care providers and researchers. Being the first organization in North America to provide a comprehensive continuing medical education (CME) program on NETs, NANETS plans to enhance our training by developing more educational forums and tools for NET disease management.

Below you will find a list of recordings produced during the event. Please share this information with your colleagues to help disseminate this important information. In addition, abstracts of the poster sessions are available for review. The number and quality of submissions this year are quite impressive.
